Pisces meaning

Pisces is the two fish, the twelfth sign of the zodiac. The glyph ♓ is two crescents joined by a line, a cord between them. It is not the Christian fish, the ichthys, which is one fish and a creed.

♓U+2653

Two fish tied by a cord. Not the Christian ichthys.

Where it comes from

A pair of fish tied together is the old figure, told in Greek as Aphrodite and Eros escaping into the river. Tropical Pisces is a water sign, traditionally ruled by Jupiter. The vernal equinox now falls among these stars, which is a fact about precession and the reason some people announce an age. The sign in a natal chart is still a thirty-degree slice counted from the equinox, not a membership card in that announcement.

Astrology

Two fish, one cord

The cord is the part the glyph bothers to draw. The figures pull in different directions and stay linked. That is a better summary than “dreamy.” The ichthys in this cabinet is a different fish, with a different sentence inside it.
