Omega meaning
Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, written Ω. In Christian use paired with alpha it means the end as well as the beginning. On its own in physics, Ω is the ohm, the unit of electrical resistance, named for Georg Ohm.
The last letter of the Greek alphabet. Later, a unit of resistance.
Where it comes from
The letter closes the Greek alphabet, which is why Revelation can use it as “the end.” The shape is a long O left open at the bottom in the capital form. In the nineteenth century the ohm took the capital omega as its symbol. The two uses share a character and not a meaning. An electrical diagram and a catacomb inscription should not be read as one tradition.
Hellenic
Last, because the list ends
The meaning “end” is positional. Omega is last because the alphabet was fixed that way, not because the sound was mystical. Position is enough to build Revelation’s sentence.
Modern
The ohm is a surname
Georg Simon Ohm’s law gave the unit its name, and the unit took the letter. If you see Ω beside a resistor, you are in a circuit. If you see it beside a chi-rho, you are in a church. The character will not tell you. The neighbors will.
