Haze, as a forecast icon, means particles are expected to dull the view. Fog and mist are water droplets. Smoke is its own label.

A forecast icon for haze. Not fog, not mist, and not smoke.
The name. Haze is a WWIS label beside smoke, and apart from mist and fog. Particles, not a rain cloud.
Where it comes from
WWIS lists haze, smoke, mist, and fog as different labels. The Met Office guide includes mist and fog and does not make haze their synonym. Apple lists haze among its weather icons. A station model can report haze as present weather when visibility is reduced. The forecast icon and the plot sign are two systems. This page does not give haze a distance cutoff the tables used here do not print.
The line drawing is original to this cabinet. It is not an agency logo, a vendor icon, or the emoji for the same idea.
Weather
What it means
The air is expected to look milky or brown from fine particles, dry ones, rather than from a cloud of water at the ground. You can have haze on a day the sun still shows, which is why some icons keep a disk behind the veil. The disk is not a clear-sky forecast.
Variants
On the plot
Present weather includes restrictions. Haze at the station is an observation. The phone icon is an expectation. Same English word. Different job.
Questions
What does a haze icon mean?
The forecast expects haze: a dry dulling of the view. WWIS lists it apart from fog, mist, and smoke.
Is haze a cloud type?
No. A cloud icon classifies a sky. Haze is particles in the air. This page is not a cloud atlas.
