Where it comes from

Apple’s iPhone weather guide lists sunrise and sunset among its icons. The WWIS table used for the sky icons on this line does not list sunrise as a weather condition beside clear, cloud, and rain. Many apps draw the sun on a horizon and let the caption, sunrise or sunset, do the work. The two pages here are split so the cabinet can name both. The drawing is a reading aid, not Apple’s artwork.

What it means

The useful content is the time printed with the icon. The sun can rise into cloud, fog, or rain. A sunrise mark next to a rain icon is not a contradiction. One is a clock. The other is the sky.
