Eye of Providence meaning

The Eye of Providence is an eye in a triangle, a Christian sign of God’s sight. Freemasonry and the US Great Seal reused it. It is older than the dollar bill, and it is not the Egyptian wedjat.

A claim that you are seen. The dollar bill did not invent it.

The name. An eye in a triangle, with rays. The triangle is Trinity before it is anything else.

Where it comes from

The eye in a triangle is a Christian sign of God’s sight, used in churches and altarpieces well before the United States put it on the reverse of the Great Seal in 1782 and on the dollar in 1935. Freemasonry adopted a widespread emblem; it did not coin it. Conspiracy readings that start from the currency run the history backwards.

Christian

Omniscience, geometrized

The triangle is three-in-one. The eye is the claim that nothing is outside regard. Rays are glory, a standard piece of sacred furniture, not a transmission. You can dislike the claim. You still have to locate it in theology before you locate it in a committee.

Modern

A seal is a reuse

The Great Seal’s unfinished pyramid and its eye are a specific eighteenth-century composition about a young state. They quote older signs. Quotation is not ownership, in either direction. The wedjat and the hamsa are other eyes, with other jobs. Staring is not a single tradition.
